Best Western Plus Raton Hotel

At the foot of Raton Pass on the Colorado border, the Best Western Plus Raton Hotel makes a comfortable base in Raton, New Mexico, an old railroad and Santa Fe Trail town just off Interstate 25. Raton sits on a historic crossing. The pass over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains carried the Santa Fe Trail and later the railroad into New Mexico, and the town's brick-front downtown recalls that boom. Lake Maloya and the trails of Sugarite Canyon State Park spread northeast for fishing and hiking, the NRA Whittington Center stretches across the hills nearby, and the dramatic cinder cone of Capulin Volcano rises a drive to the east. Spacious rooms and two suites surround an indoor pool set in a lush botanical courtyard, and a complimentary full breakfast buffet opens the day. A full-service restaurant, a fitness center, and a business center round out the stay, and the hotel welcomes dogs in designated rooms. Below the pass where the trail crossed the mountains, Raton makes a scenic high-plains base.
