Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa

Guests aged 18 and over may access the exclusive Shangri-La Gardens, an outdoor rainforest lounge at the top of the waterfall that is reserved for adults only. Here you can relax in the tranquility of a cabana, enjoy peaceful hot springs and order tropical-themed cocktails along with light snacks.

If you are celebrating a special occasion – perhaps an anniversary or a proposal – there could be no better way to do it than by booking a romantic private dining experience. Hosted in a secluded rainforest bungalow, the experience includes a specially created 6-course menu paired with a fine selection of wines and beers.

The spa at this hotel is inspired by the rainforest setting and uses all-natural ingredients plus the healing power of the local waters – each spa treatment begins with a relaxing soak in a thermal hot spring. Treatments are given in outdoor bungalows designed for individual or couple’s sessions and include unique options such as avocado, aloe and green tea wraps, Naranjo coffee exfoliation, honey massages and a signature "Idyllic" treatment, which includes a relaxing massage and hot mud mask followed by a luxurious milk bath.

As well as the hotel’s beautiful setting and fantastic facilities, this property stands out with its sustainability initiatives. Deeply committed to protecting the natural world, it has been awarded the highest national level of certification for sustainable tourism. Initiatives include community outreach programs, sustainable practices in food and waste management, reduced energy consumption and education of guests through activities like the plant-a-tree program.

If traveling to the hotel from San José Juan Santamaria Intl Airport, you can expect the journey to take up to 3h by car. As the journey is a long one it is recommended to take a rental car or book a transfer service in advance to ensure a good price.

Plenty of tours can be booked through the hotel to help guests get up close to the incredible natural surroundings of the hotel. Adventurous options include white-water rafting, waterfall hiking, horseback riding and rainforest canopy tours, while those who want to get acquainted with nature can go on a "Sloths and Birds" discovery tour or floating safari. For a gourmet experience, opt for a chocolate or coffee tour to learn about local production.

Special honeymoon suites can be booked at this hotel, featuring stunning views of the Arenal volcano, a canopy king bed and an in-room jacuzzi that seats two people. For additional romance, the hotel can help organize special touches like breakfast in bed, couple’s massages and an aphrodisiac welcome amenity.
