Driving a car hire in Gaborone will allow you to explore the majestic bush and all its natural gems as you please, and if this is the focus of your trip then you will definitely need a 4X4 or an SUV for your trip. The terrains you'll be crossing are unpredictable and often not paved at all. Driving out after an African storm means driving through mud and water-logged crevasses all over the place. Then, heading into remote bush locations means you should be prepared for anything. Larger vehicles can handle more aggressive driving conditions, people and fuel and are generally safer in off-road experiences.

When driving around in your Gaborone car hire, the speed limits are pretty straightforward. Driving in the city or through smaller towns between places means you'll be doing 60 km/h, while on motorways the limit is 120 km/h. You'll see that outside the city there are very few road signs, and it is recommended that you drive slower rather than faster. Roads tend to go from dirt to paved without warning and are often edged by tall thick grass. This makes it hard to see what the potential dangers are or where the road conditions are less favourable, so keeping a safe following distance and going slow is your best bet.

You'll find parking in your car hire in Gaborone can be tricky depending on where you are. Most of the hotels offer free parking with your accommodation which is a good option. If you are looking to park in the city, you'll find space in shopping centre car parks and large business parking areas. On-street parking is available but is mostly chargeable. You'll see parking attendants walking around with mobile pay machines in the city centre and they will charge you per hour to park on the street.
