For folks who are not familiar with Atlanta airport, note that College Park is location of the airport’s off-site rental car center.
Verified travelerOct 2025
Get an SUV minimum as you will be dwarfed by other traffic. Fuel so cheap that MPG is irrelevant and lastly.... a sat nav is essential
Verified travelerOct 2025
Pay for the car in advance. I've never had such a long wait before and the counter agents had NO sense of urgency even though the line was intimidating.
Verified travelerJul 2025
National is much better and is often cheaper and has better cars. SIXT is also often a better alternative. Book early and you’ll do better. I suppose being in the ‘preferred’ club will give you a better experience; but why is good customer experience a premium? Go elsewhere.
Verified travelerJan 2025
The process was very smooth and I was pleasantly surprised about the price and value of the truck we got! Just remember the pick-up place for cars is away from the airport - lots of walking and a SkyTran ride away.
Verified travelerJan 2025
Please book cars more than 24hr in advance, always, to avoid any counter check in issues.
LizJul 2024
Be sure to be a Hertz Gold Member. It's free and it made a big difference in the preferences we got when we checked in.
Verified travelerJun 2024
Know that you have to take 2 trams from your gate to the RCC center. 2nd thing on many of the navigational units when returning to RCC it will tell you to return the car on the left when in reality most are on the right side of the garage.
Verified travelerAug 2024
The saloon Asian cars are more fuel efficient. Very cost effective for someone that has a lot of running around. A matter of choice anyway and dependent on the number of passengers.
SabuApr 2024
Worth it as ride share prices can get high. Make sure you plan and budget for parking though if you plan on on being in Atlanta city.
ChristanoMar 2024
Always check the cost they charge if you do not refuel the car. Also taking the offer during rental for them to refuel might sometimes be cheaper. At my time of booking it was 2.99 per liter while gas was selling for around 3.50

Verified travelerNov 2023
Driving in College Park was a wide open. It was a lot of distance between the traffic signals; so you could make up time if you were running tardy. The lanes were not cluttered with a lot of vehicles and the drive to and from the rental car was full of gas stations. You could see planes right above your head. The kids were excited about the closeness of the view of the airplanes.
Verified travelerNov 2023
Getting out of area with rental cars was problematic for me. Nearly turned when I should have gone straight. Car horns kept me on right track. Nice attendant programmed my phone with car GPS. Most helpful to get to destination.

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in College Park

  • While public transportation or rideshare services are available in College Park, College Park car rentals offer several advantages. Car rentals in College Park provide flexibility and convenience, allowing you to explore the city and its surroundings at your own pace and schedule. Unlike alternative transport options, car renting lets you visit off-the-beaten-path destinations and easily access attractions outside the city limits. With a car, you can conveniently explore popular sites like the Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site.
  • When you arrive in College Park, you'll land into Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL). The airport houses several car rental agencies where you can obtain a rental car. The rental car offices are at the Rental Car Center, a separate facility from the airport terminals. The Rental Car Center can be accessed by taking the free ATL SkyTrain, which operates 24/7 and connects all airport terminals with the Rental Car Center. Follow the signs to the SkyTrain station within the airport and board the train to reach the Rental Car Center efficiently.
  • When driving car rentals in College Park, be mindful of the speed limits and traffic regulations, as law enforcement is active in the area. Pedestrian activity is relatively common, particularly near the downtown area and around educational institutions, so exercising caution and looking out for pedestrians is crucial. The presence of numerous intersections and busy urban areas may require extra caution and attentiveness while navigating the city. Familiarizing yourself with the local traffic patterns and staying attentive while driving will help ensure a safe and smooth driving experience in College Park.
  • Driving car rentals in College Park can be challenging due to heavy traffic congestion during peak hours, particularly around major roadways. College Park's rush hour occurs during weekday morning and evening commuting times. Morning rush hour commonly occurs between 7 am and 9 am when people travel to work or school. Evening rush hour typically occurs between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm when people return home. The high volume of vehicles during this rush hour can result in slower speeds and potential delays. One of the most affected roads is Interstate 285, especially in the sections around the exits for Camp Creek Parkway (Exit 2) and Old National Highway (Exit 62).
  • Medium rental cars in College Park are around 70% cheaper than other car types, on average

Hertz promised a "skip the line check in", but when I arrived my selected grade of vehicle "wasn't ready." However there were tons of more expensive vehicles ready if I wanted to pay for an upgrade! It was so clearly just a money making scheme. I ended up standing in line. Super annoying!

The lady at the book in desk was full of attitude - complaining to a colleague about a negative review!! I’ve never experienced anything like this from a service based company - I won’t be renting from Avis in Atlanta again… The car was well used - scratched and stained on the upholstery - but it did the required journey without any problems. Drop off was the best part of the hire and went well.

When we arrived the Manager would not give us another car until the original car was towed to them. AAA said it will take hours to do so. A couple of things were negatives. 1) They apparently have a restriction on which states you can travel to in the rental car- although this didn’t affect my plans this time, I could see how it might be a negative if I had plans to travel to one of the restricted states. 2) Despite arriving at the car rental spot around 9:00 pm on a weekday and there not being a line at the counter- the company rep advised me that there would be up to a 45 minute wait to get my car ready- when I asked if there was anything we could do to avoid the wait- she advised that we could upgrade and get a car immediately. This suspiciously appeared to be a bait and switch tactic. Especially since it was not busy and I had a reservation which put them on notice of the rental. I WILL NO LONGER BE RENTING FROM ACE.

The car maintenance came on whilst driving and undiscloed 250 fee was assessed for taking the car to a different airport for drop off. On a one way trip this should be disclosed before I get to the airport.

The price point was excellent. I love the check in before pickup, your in and out. Staff was professional and well groomed. I ended up canceling my rental due to bad weather interrupting plans Atlanta, GA.

Extremely rude customer service. We were next in line at the indoor desk at ATL airport when the agent asked if we were paying with a credit card. I replied yes. I noted the previous guest just used his credit card. I was then told we need to move to the outdoor desk to be assisted. I asked why since we already made the reservation online and I was not aware that Budget would even accept cash, check or Venmo etc. We did not receive an answer just told to move to the other desk after we waited in the line for 40 minutes. This agent continued to care for some of the people in line. We moved outdoors in the heat and waited in another line for about 30 minutes. Since we had to move, people who were behind us in the original line were now in front of us. The agent who assisted us when we finally receive the car was pleasant. I asked to speak to a manager (which no one was available) to inquire about the move from indoors to outside. Another agent commented well we needed to offload the line. I said we were the next guests indoors when we were asked to move. The response, “oh then I don’t know.” Overall would never rent a car from this facility or this company due to lack of organization and incredibly poor customer service.

They did not have the car I reserved and wouldn't offer a free upgrade for another car. They said I could wait 2 hours or pay more for a car. They clearly don't understand the concept of a reservation. The car I paid to be upgraded to was clean, but the tank wasn't full. They didn't come to look at the car with me, just handed me the keys and told me where it was in the poorly lit parking deck. When dropping it off after hours at my destination, the instructions weren't clear and at the key drop the sign said that the customer is responsible for any damages that occur in the parking lot until they open the next day. It would have been nice to know that ahead of making that arrangement. The car drove well.

If they actually had a car to rent me upon arrival, that would have been better. I ended up at Sixt and paid more but they actually had cars available.

My flight was delayed by 2 hours due to bad weather. I arrived in Atlanta at roughly 10:30pm and made it to the Fox/Europcar desk at 10:45pm. There were no service members there. After waiting for a couple minutes, I asked an employee of a different company at a neighboring desk and they said I would have to locate the office downstairs in the garage to pickup my key. After making my way downstairs and locating the office, I arrived at exactly 11pm as two employees were exiting the office. When I told them I was there to pick up my car, they said they were closed, the computers were shut down, and there was no way to go back into the office and get the keys for my rental. They then told me that my reservation was nonrefundable. I had to go back up to another company's desk and rent a car from them for my 2-hour drive. The complete lack of customer service was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. Lesson learned.
